Africans to Anti-Globalists: Stop "Helping" Us

A poll released today finds that two thirds of Africans believe globalization has a positive effect on their lives, making Africa the single most pro-globalization region in the world.

Angry, sign carrying, costume wearing, vitriol-spouting anti-globalization protesters take note: You do not speak for the world's poor. They do not want your "help." By opposing free trade with the developing world you are only serving to further impoverish its people.

If you actually want to improve the quality of life in Africa, lobby for the elimination of trade barriers with poor countries, and for the elimination of corporate welfare subsidies for domestic producers in rich countries. If you do you'll not only help the people of Africa and South Asia, you'll be able to buy those black balaclavas you dig so much at far more competitive prices.
