In a New York Times column published three days after last year's presidential election, Paul Krugman wrote that
The resurgence of Al Qaeda, the debacle in Iraq, the explosion of the budget deficit and the failure to create jobs weren't things that just happened to occur on Mr. Bush's watch. They were the consequences of bad policies made by people who let ideology trump reality.
Actually several of them are things that didn't happen at all. Al Qaeda remains a serious threat, but it isn't obvious to what "resurgence" Krugman was referring. There was a net gain in jobs during the president's first term, and debacle isn't the most common term being applied to Iraq these days.
As for the budget deficit, well, let's see what happens.
