A few days ago, some MSM publication (I think it was called the Waltz Treat Journal) chided bloggers for engaging in an amateurish vendetta against CNN exec. Eason Jordan. Not considering this bit of whine spectating to be particularly newsworthy, we chose not to bother our readers with it.
Blogger David M believed otherwise, speculating yesterday on the authorship of the WTJ piece. We’re embarrassed to admit that we need a little help following Dave’s argument. Can someone please tell us who this James Toronto fellow is? (Isn't Toronto the name of the Canadian president?)
UPDATE (Feb 17, 5:31pm PT):
I see from reading Michelle Malkin's blog that I misremembered the name of the snippy MSM publication. Apparently it's called the Wall Street Journal. Also, despite the helpful comment attached to this post, I'm still not quite sure who Mr. John Taranto is.
UPDATE (Feb 18, 1:49pm PT):
Imagine our deepening embarrassment. According to a Wall Street Journal web page, Mr. John Taaronto spells his name "with two A's".
Posted by Andrew Coulson at February 17, 2005 01:19 PM | TrackBackHis name is actually James Taranto, and he is an opinion journal editor who is best known for writing the daily feature: Best of the Web, which is well worth reading if you haven't heard of it before.
I read David's 'evidence' and it makes alot of sense except for the fact that Taranto himself is very much a blogger, regularly cites bloggers and is writes with a pretty sharp tone toward what he finds ridiculious. I would have expected him to come down hard on Jordan and positive toward the bloggers.
In Taranto's BOTW from that day (which David links to as part of his evidence), James writes:
In any case, the broader theme is clear: Those on the right are helping improve institutions like the media and academia by casting light on their most irresponsibly leftist elements, while those on the left are trying to excommunicate responsible center-left figures like Tim Roemer and Larry Summers. Or to put it another way, the right is increasingly influencing the mainstream, while the left is increasingly alienated from it.

King: it's a joke. And if you check out Best of the Web this afternoon, you'll find Taranto gets the joke and returns it in kind.
It's sort of like a retard tennis match.
But perhaps you too are joking.
I'm so confused...

Great parody of the Toronto style. A lot of fun.
