I doubt it.
An AP headline this morning suggests that the E.U. is reconsidering arms sales to China due to a combination of pressure from the U.S. and China's recent threat of a "non-peaceful" response to Taiwanese independence moves.
Are they coming to their senses? I really, truly, doubt it. I don't know what they're thinking, but I suspect that the arms sales will eventually go through, with perhaps a few token items taken off the table to make it look like they have a guilty conscience arming the world's biggest dictatorship.
Posted by Andrew Coulson at March 22, 2005 07:43 AM | TrackBackI seriously doubt the EU has truly had a change of heart. The sales will go through because certain key nations i.e. France,Germany will make sure they do. They'll just do it when there is not so much attention being paid.
Not to mention that they are desperately trying to turn the negative tide on their Constitution vote.
