America's best near term hope for a universally accessible free education market took a severe blow recently when South Carolina's Put Parents in Charge education tax credit plan was amended, much for the worse, by the House budget committee.
It's hard to be patient, but patience is called for. It took Horace Mann and other 19th century reformers about three quarters of a century to sell government monopoly schooling to this nation's once liberty-loving citizens. If the confused newspaper article cited above is any indication, it will take at least that long to educate voters on the deficiencies of monopoly schooling relative to a parent-driven education market.
